If you’re not familiar with the moka, it is an adorable little geometric pot that works by reverse brewing: Hot water in the bottom chamber is forced up through coffee grounds thanks to steam. One is found in practically every household in Italy where it was invented in 1933 by engineer and coffee enthusiast Alfonso Bialetti. Please note the Moka Express is made of aluminium so will not work directly on induction hobs – you’ll need an adapter (See here) The moka pot is typically made of aluminum, with a black Bakelite (plastic) handle and an eight-sided octagonal design.
